Education at SMIC

Education at Beijing SMIC is delivered by accomplished, creative, and compassionate teachers utilizing exceptional facilities and resources. From the special foundation years of education, students are provided with opportunities to develop their mind, attitude, and outlook on the world around them.

Our global curriculum builds on the premise that a broad understanding of all cultures is necessary for success. Here at SMIC we feel that a diverse classroom produces diverse students with incredible potential and achievement. Teachers and students from all around the globe, create a unique chance to experience countless other cultures and traditions.

At Beijing SMIC Private School, elementary students and teachers follow Common Core Standards and National Generation Science Standards. Our elementary teachers utilize Common Core Standards in English Language Art, Social Studies and Science. Singapore Math, the national mathematics curriculum in Singapore, is used for Grades 1-5.

History: Through the students studies we will seek to give them a better understanding of the past so that the students will be able to live with a global, historical perspective which will make them conscientious history makers in their culture and our global society.

English: The ELA Program at SMIC Beijing uses the Aero, or Common Core Plus, Standards. With accelerated options for advanced students we can push every student to their full comprehensive potential.

Math: We use “Math in Focus” which is the U.S edition of Singapore’s top-ranking math program. It follows the pedagogical framework that includes emphasizing concept mastery, a concrete-to-pictorial-to-abstract approach, meta-cognitive reasoning, and the use of model drawing to solve and justify problems.

Science: Students will  establish an academic foundation that allows them to build connections between scientific concepts, their own lives, their communities, and the world at large.

Chinese: With over 80% of our students are in grade level classes using the same curriculum as Chinese public schools. Our teachers goal is for our students to become fluent in the Chinese Language and Culture, and be able to express themselves in formal writing or speaking as well as educated local citizens.

Physical Education: From basketball to volleyball to badminton and many more sports in between our PE curriculum aims to develop an understanding of coordination, teamwork, and overall healthy living.

Electives & Skill: Our electives/skill classes include art fun, photography, film studies, public speaking, and more! All classes grow students’ interests in other areas of life to become a well-rounded citizen.

Social Studies: Students explore the ideas and patterns that connect history with a focus on key concepts such as revolution, nationalism, imperialism, and much more. Our social studies courses offered at the high school include World History, US History, Intro to Economics, AP Human Geography, AP World History, and AP Macro-/Micro-Economics.

English: Students develop abilities to analyse complex texts and move on to grow their language arts skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Our English courses include English I, II, & III as well as AP English III Lit and Comp, Public Speaking, Debate, and Forensics, and Informational Texts.

Math: Students being with Algebra I typically and move through our math curriculum which includes Geometry, Algebra II, Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus. Description

Natural Sciences: Our students grow in all sub-studies of science with classes including Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, AP Environmental Science, AP Chemistry, and AP Biology.

World Languages:  We go a step further in high school offering not only Chinese Language and Culture but Spanish I and Spanish II for language learners.

Physical Education: With courses in PE I, PE II, and Health, SMIC students leave with a full understand of a healthy lifestyle and how to incorporate their new life skills and develop positive attitudes about life.

English for Academic Purposes (EAP): The EAP program has been established to support students whose English skills show promise for full participation in the Regular English courses. EAP courses develop necessary English proficiency and academic skills to enable full participation in SMIC HS-I Program.

Nanhaizi Campus

Developing our students from the very start, Nanhaizi is the best kindergarten that teaches core values. Here we integrate families into the SMIC community and life in Beijing.

SMIC Main Campus

Housing both our elementary program (grades 1-5) and middle school program (grades 6-8) our Main campus in Yi Zhuang, Daxing prepares students for higher learning and leadership.

High School Campus

Preparing the leaders of tomorrow with excellence in mind, our high school campus connects students to their full potential and ensures that each individual leaves with the tools needed for success. And we are proud to announce that our high school is a UCAS registered center!
