Student Council (Grade 9-12)
The Student Council Leadership course enhances students’ leadership, organization, and responsibility through active participation in student governance. Serving on the Student Council (StuCo) allows students to represent their peers, plan school-wide events, and collaborate with faculty, promoting community while embodying SMIC values of Honor, Excellence, Community, and Joy. By the end of the course, students will demonstrate effective leadership through organizing events, develop strong communication skills to represent student voices, and collaborate with others to foster a positive school culture. They will manage responsibilities such as budgeting and event planning with accountability. The course structure includes assuming specific StuCo roles, regular meetings for planning, and organizing projects like charity drives and competitions. Students are expected to maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher, adhere to school policies, and actively participate in all meetings and events. Assessment includes performance evaluations, peer feedback, and reflection journals. Elected officers will undergo a one-month probationary period to evaluate their effectiveness in fulfilling their duties.
