Grade 6

Mathematics

1.Understand ratio concepts and use ratio reasoning to problem solve.

2.Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division to divide fractions by fractions, and to understand the system of rational numbers.

3.Apply and extend previous understandings of arithmetic to algebraic expressions.

4.Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, surface area, and volume.

5.Develop understanding of statistical variability.

English Language Arts

1.Cite textual evidence to support literary analysis.

2.Determine main idea, theme, plot, and point of view within a piece of literature.

3.Determine the meaning of words and phrases in a text, as well as how certain words and phrases contribute to the overall structure and meaning of a text.

4.Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence. Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content. Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, relevant descriptive details and well-structured event sequences.

5.Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. Responsibly use the internet to conduct short research projects and citing sources accordingly.

Grade 7

Mathematics

1.Analyze proportional relationships and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems.

2.Apply and extend previous understandings of operations with fractions to add, subtract, multiply and divide rational numbers.

3.Use properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions.

4.Solve real-life and mathematical problems using numerical and algebraic expressions and equations

5.Draw, construct and describe geometrical figures and describe the relationships between them.

6.Draw conclusions from various statistical information such as population.

English Language Arts

1.Cite several pieces of textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.

2.Determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text; provide an objective summary of the text.

3.Analyze how particular elements of a story or drama interact (e.g., how setting shapes the characters or plot).

4.Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative and connotative meanings; analyze the impact of rhymes and other repetitions of sounds (e.g., alliteration) on a specific verse or stanza of a poem or section of a story or drama.

5.Analyze how an author develops and contrasts the points of view of different characters or narrators in a text.

6.Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence. Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content. Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, relevant descriptive details, and well-structured event sequences.

7.Gather relevant information from multiple print and digital sources, using search terms effectively; assess the credibility and accuracy of each source; and quote or paraphrase the data and conclusions of others while avoiding plagiarism and following a standard format for citation.

Grade 8

Mathematics

1.Know that there are numbers that are not rational and approximate them by rational numbers.

2.Work with radicals and integer exponents.

3.Understand the connections between proportional relationships, lines, and linear equations. Analyze and solve linear equations and pairs of simultaneous linear equations

4.Define, evaluate, and compare functions. Use functions to model relationships between quantities.

5.Understand congruence and similarity using physical models, transparencies, or geometry software. Understand and apply the Pythagorean Theorem.

English Language Arts

1.Cite the textual evidence that most strongly supports an analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.

2.Determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text, including its relationship to the characters, setting, and plot; provide an objective summary of the text.

3.Analyze how particular lines of dialogue or incidents in a story or drama propel the action, reveal aspects of a character, or provoke a decision.

4.Compare and contrast the structure of two or more texts and analyze how the differing structure of each text contributes to its meaning and style. Analyze how differences in the points of view of the characters and the audience or reader (e.g., created through the use of dramatic irony) create such effects as suspense or humor

5.Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence. Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content. Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, relevant descriptive details, and well-structured event sequences.

6.Gather relevant information from multiple print and digital sources, using search terms effectively; assess the credibility and accuracy of each source; and quote or paraphrase the data and conclusions of others while avoiding plagiarism and following a standard format for citation.

7.Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research.
